I guess editing this blog is basically an annual thing? It certainly feels that way. If you’re here, you probably follow me on social media where I actually post more updates. If not, eh, might wanna do that.
Boy does this year suck, right? We have a pandemic, social and political unrest and injustice, people slinging conspiracy theories at each other faster than Snopes can keep up. Oh, and the USPS is being kneecapped, on purpose, by its current leadership. ...which really sucks when your business has been suddenly and completely been driven online. Sigh. This year I had a grand total of two conventions before the pandemic hit. Chattacon, a very small literary convention, and Pensacon, a fairly large fandom convention. The first was tiny, but a fun little hangout with friends. The second was great for those who did NOT get stuck in a sad corner like me and a handful of others, most of whom did not show. I was stuck in an off-shoot location, out of sight and mind from the main vendor floor and artist ring, and my only traffic for the first half of the weekend were people who got lost looking for celebs or wandering about. The second half of the weekend picked up after friends and customers kept directing people my way, but the convention center literally tried to close the doors on my area before the show even closed, so that should tell you something. I did speak to the Artist Alley head, and she assured me that placement would be different for next year, but now I’m concerned that dates will be pushed back or canceled, as the rest of this years shows have been. Nothing is certain, but the only thing to do is to push forward. Conventions will resumes eventually, but are likely to be affected for a long, long time. But hey, postcards are back in stock, so that’s something, right?
